Hello OTBU Members,
Thanks for checking out the link provided. It is difficult to include everything that we would like to say in the 250 words the current election process allows.
Our Election Flyer that follows outlines our commitments to the membership to create an Executive team that is accountable, transparent, communicates with and engages Members.
We would like to address a rumor that seems to keep coming up. We have no idea where this rumor is coming from and maybe someone is just trying to make a good “headline” but, telling Members something bad is going to happen if you elect these people without any proof really comes down to fear mongering designed to sway votes. That is not ok!
We are OTBU Members and we are running to represent OTBU Members. In no discussions with anyone have we ever said that we want to amalgamate the TBU and the OTBU Bargaining Units. That is a falsehood.
Amalgamation is not something that a Bargaining Unit President can decide and then it happens. It would be a very lengthy process and ultimately would require a vote of the OTBU Members and a vote of the TBU Members.
We have said multiple times that we would like to work better with the TBU. We are all Teachers and there are many PD opportunities, many social justice campaigns, and many Member engagement opportunities that can benefit everyone. Why would we not explore the possibilities?
We believe in a Bargaining Unit run by Occasional Teachers for Occasional Teachers where the OTBU voice is heard, OTBU concerns are understood and OTBU access to work is maintained.
We Have submitted a number of Motions to create CHANGE, changes that create an Executive team that is accountable, transparent, communicates with and engages Members.
Please take a look at our Motions, I'm sure you will agree that we .
